By logging in to the Society of General Practitioners of BC (SGP) website www.sgp.bc.ca, you are accepting the practices described in the Terms and Conditions and the Privacy Policy.

The SGP reserves the right to change this policy at any time. Our privacy policy will be kept up to date and posted on our web site.

Privacy commitment

SGP is committed to ensuring the privacy of our Members’ personal information and it is never released to third parties or for commercial use.

Passwords not to be shared

If you are an SGP member and registered user of the member’s section of this website, you are not permitted to share your user name and password with anyone else.

Security

The SGP web site has physical and technical measures in place to ensure the security of information. Servers reside in a secure offsite host location and are accessible only to a limited group of authorized personnel.

Safeguards

The SGP strictly protects the confidentiality of your personal information and honors your choices for its intended use. We carefully protect your information from misuse, unauthorized access, or disclosure.

Security measures have been integrated into the design, implementation, and day-to-day operating practices of the web site as part of our continuing commitment to the protection of personal information it holds.

Cookies

The SGP uses “cookie” technology to enhance and facilitate your visit to the SGP website. “Cookies” do not themselves contain or reveal any personal information. “Cookie” files are sent to users’ computers for the purposes of storing personal preferences and technical information. We also use cookies to monitor trends in site usage and page views so that we can adapt the site based on an understanding of how it is used.

We use mostly temporary “cookies” (i.e. the cookies last until you close your browser). Permanent “cookies” are used, for example if you choose the “remember me” option at the time of log in. If you do not accept the SGP’s use of cookies you may change your browser settings so that the browser does not accept cookies (instructions on how to change your browser’s cookie settings should be found in the help section in your web browser.)

Site tracking

The SGP does not track patterns of usage by any visitor, we do however track aggregate usage patterns to assess which pages are popular and which are not. This gives us the opportunity to monitor and enhance the value of the site to our users.

The SGP does collect information in log files. This information, such as browser type, operating system, time of access, etc., gives us the opportunity to improve service and identify any problems. This information is not released to any third party.

The only exception to this is if we are legally compelled to provide this information. There is an obligation for the SGP to be able to track any unauthorized usage.

Links to other sites

The SGP has links to other web sites that are not under its control. The SGP is not responsible for the contents of any linked web site, any link contained in a linked web site, or any changes or updates to such web sites. The inclusion of any link does not mean that the SGP endorses that web site.

Please be aware that the SGP is not responsible for the privacy practices of other web sites that we link to. We encourage you to read the privacy statements of every web site that requests personal information from you.

SGP Privacy Policy and Principles

The SGP ensures personal information is protected by security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.

The SGP makes information available about its policies and practices relating to the management of personal information.

9. Individual Access To Personal Information
Upon request, the SGP informs an individual of the existence, use, and disclosure of his or her personal information and the individual has access to that information. An individual has the ability to challenge the accuracy and completeness of the information and have it amended as appropriate.

10. Challenging Compliance
An individual has the ability to challenge the SGP’s compliance with these principles by contacting the SGP’s privacy officer.
